|From Behind My Eyes - The Adventures of Tim Stubbe||
Well the weather in South Florida looks like its going to be bad for at least the next 3 days. Lightening, Thunder and estimated 10 inches of rain. I'm choosing the better part of common sence and heading east to Cape Canaveral (Kennedy Space Center). Sure I'm a bit disappointed but there are tons of things on my list to see and I'll just have to come back to key West another time.
The ride across Florida was ok, mostly Interstate and toll roads. I got to the Kennedy Space center early enough to take the tour and see the exhibits. The bus ride out to the lanuching area was nice and the view was exceptional. After about 3 hours, I turned up highway 1 and rode to St Augustine where I camped at the St Augustine KOA. A fairly nice campground by way more expenisve than it should have been, but since I hadn't washed clothes since Carlsbad and I had worn everything it was time to take the clothes to the laundry room at the campround. After washing clothes, I headed down to the St Auguatine Beach for dinner. Where I met thos cranky old transplanted flordian. You know the time, the one that trys to get a reaction out of you, and if he does then he'll just keep it up. Well first thing he says when I walk in Army guys are FAGS!!..LOL Since I had my 101st Airborne cap on I figured he was referring to me. I just said "Oh Really" and let it go. He made a couple comments about California and again just sluffed it off. Then he got conversational and everything calmed down. It was obvious that he was a transplanted NY/NJ person so I just chocked it up to regional differences. Later he made a commen that when he was in the service during the war "War??" what war I quietly asked. Vietnam he said.. I said "OH, what brance were you in.. His reply was Navy, "Oh?" I queried, where were you stationed?" He said "San Jouquin Valley". My response was imediate "Must have been hard defending Americans from teh Communist hoards in Fresno" To which he looked away and grumbled. Later after my dinner, I walked up and shook his and and told him I enjoyed the conversation and asked his nam3, to wit he said " MOE" .. GO FIGURE!!!..I have to say this guy was almost worth the price of the dinner...
I"ve met some pretty interesting people on this trip.. This guy was maybe the funniest.
